On order-preserving and order-reversing mappings defined on cones of convex functions

In this paper,we first show that for a Banach space X,there is a fully order-reversing mapping T from conv(X)(the cone of all the extended real-valued lower semicontinuous proper convex functions defined on X) onto itself if and only if X is reflexive and linearly isomorphic to its dual X~*.Then we further prove the following generalized Artstein-Avidan-Milman representation theorem:For every fully order-reversing mapping T:conv(X)→conv(X),there exist a linear isomorphism U:X→X~*,x_0~*,φ_0∈X~*,α0 and r_0∈R so that(Tf)(x)=α(Ff)(Ux+x_0~*)+φ_0,x+r_0,■x∈X where T:conv(X)→conv(X~*) is the Fenchel transform.Hence,these resolve two open questions.We also show several representation theorems of fully order-preserving mappings defined on certain cones of convex functions.For example,for every fully order-preserving mapping S:semn(X)→ semn(X),there is a linear isomorphism U:X→ X so that(Sf)(x)=f(Ux),■f∈semn(X),x∈X where semn(X) is the cone of all the lower semicontinuous seminorms on X.

Unveiling the Layer‐Dependent Catalytic Activity of PtSe2 Atomic Crystals for the Hydrogen Evolution Reaction

Two‐dimensional (2D) PtSe₂ shows the most prominent layer‐dependent electrical properties among various 2D materials and high catalytic activity for hydrogen evolution reaction (HER), and therefore, it is an ideal material for exploring the structure–activity correlations in 2D systems. Here, starting with the synthesis of single‐crystalline 2D PtSe₂ with a controlled number of layers and probing the HER catalytic activity of individual flakes in micro electrochemical cells, we investigated the layer‐dependent HER catalytic activity of 2D PtSe₂ from both theoretical and experimental perspectives. We clearly demonstrated how the number of layers affects the number of active sites, the electronic structures, and electrical properties of 2D PtSe₂ flakes and thus alters their catalytic performance for HER. Our results also highlight the importance of efficient electron transfer in achieving optimum activity for ultrathin electrocatalysts. Our studies greatly enrich our understanding of the structure–activity correlations for 2D catalysts and provide new insight for the design and synthesis of ultrathin catalysts with high activity.

Chemical-Reductant-Free Electrochemical Deuteration Reaction using Deuterium Oxide

We report a method for the electrochemical deuteration of α,β-unsaturated carbonyl compounds under catalyst- and external-reductant-free conditions, with deuteration rates as high as 99 % and yields up to 91 % in 2 h. The use of graphite felt for both the cathode and the anode was key to ensuring chemoselectivity and high deuterium incorporation under neutral conditions without the need for an external reductant. This method has a number of advantages over previously reported deuteration reactions that use stoichiometric metallic reductants. Mechanistic experiments showed that O₂ evolution at the anode not only eliminates the need for an external reductant but also regulates the pH of the reaction mixture, keeping it approximately neutral.
